A really dog-friendly pub!

My latest find is the Empress of Blandings in Copythorne in the New Forest.  Not only do they welcome dogs inside, staff also offer individual water bowls.  But the best bit is that there is a big jar of doggy biscuits on the bar and you're told to help yourself!!

Doggy treats

Doggy treats

I know there are lots of snacks and treats in the shops, but it really is good fun making your own.  There are many recipe books around, but the one I've used is "Mutt Munchies" by Stephanie Mehanna.  My two current boarders are discerning dogs, so the pressure was on!  In the hot weather I made Canine Coolers, fruit juice ice lollies with the 'handles' made of tripe sticks.  One of the dogs didn't quite understand what to do with the ice though!  The second were Tail Twists (like cheese twists) but my dough didn't go quite as planned, so they were Tail Stars instead.  They smelt so nice so I tried one - but they are definitely for dogs' teeth!  They went down very well with my Quality Control Team though which was the important thing!!

Christmas Is Coming!

Christmas Is Coming!

I've found myself drawn to the petshops to look at all the doggy Christmas goodies. There are always alerts about not giving your dog chocolate, keeping him away from shiny baubles etc, but I think we should look at the fun side.  So far I've bought Christmas stockings and kennels filled with treats, but the toys shaped like Christmas crackers, puds, cakes, turkeys, snowflakes, fairies, trees etc etc are all so funny.  So if your family and friends don't know what to buy you for Christmas, ask them to buy a present for your dog instead. One major change I'm making this year is that I've decided not send any Christmas cards; instead I'm going to make a donation to the Second Chance Animal Rescue Centre at West End near Southampton. Meanwhile I hope you and your doggy friends have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Coffee Break Part 2!

Coffee Break Part 2!

I think I've found one of the most dog-friendly pubs! I would recommend The Happy Cheese in Ashurst, on the Eastern edge of the New Forest.  Not only was my Jack Russell friend allowed inside and given his own bowl of water, he had a huge bowl of shredded meat, veg and gravy.  He ate half in a few minutes and then had the rest for breakfast the next day.  I recommend a visit!!
